Easter Hearts, Week 2, Day 3

JOHN 20:19

Picture yourself among the disciples in that upper room, with the doors locked. Why are they there? What do they fear?

They needed to process the brutal trauma of Good Friday and the shocking discovery of the empty tomb. Some galling events can’t simply be put aside quickly. Perhaps they were reliving the anger of the crowd, the derision of the onlookers, the sound of the spikes going in, the derision of the onlookers. Crucifixion was deliberately “cruel” and deliberately not unusual, because the Romans wanted it to terrify subject peoples and potential criminals.

The disciples feared being sought out, found out, identified with Jesus, and condemned in a similar way.

What does physical fear feel like? What are the signs?

How does fear impact our thinking and feeling?

FAMILY TIME—

Have each person share a fear with the other family members.
