Questions Week 12, Day 3

PSALM 19:7-11

 

 

If the Bible were not reliable and trustworthy, would its influence be so deep and pervasive? No other book has been translated into more languages or received such intense study and scrutiny. No book has impacted the English language more than the Bible, providing so many key phrases and insights. No other book contains such clear inspiration for the rule of law, individual rights and democratic political institutions. Where else do we find a measure for social life that focuses on the needs of the least and the lost? The psalms have inspired music and poetry in every generation. The characters of the Bible are three dimensional and evocative and have crossed time and culture to illuminate the lives of millions. Nowhere else does the complexity, beauty, and tragedy of human life come across in such a profound way.

 

 

What is unique to you about the Bible?

 

 

Thank God for scripture.

David Joynt

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
