Questions Week 5 Day 6

ISAIAH 44:10-20

The purely pluralist approach, which insists that all religions are the same or different paths to the same destination, is untenable to me because it ignores the actual, factual, historic, and fundamental differences between them. The great religions share several basic ethical insights but disagree about almost everything else. Yet this does not mean Christians should simply dismiss other religions out of hand. The centrality and uniqueness of Jesus can fit with a more generous approach which allows that God works outside of the church and outside of the Christian faith. Wanting to be known, God has been at work prior to the Jewish/Christian tradition and beyond it. We should expect to find traces of God’s truth in other faiths, and we should respect their adherents. Reflect on the passage from Isaiah. What is the prophet suggesting? Why is he skeptical about pagan traditions? Have you found traces of truth in another religion?

FAMILY TIME— What other religious faith do you know and admire? Explain why.
