The Upside Down World, Week 1, Day 2

by David Joynt on September 11, 2017

COLOSSIANS 2:3

There is one great treasure, one pearl of supreme value. You and I are not meant to be diners at the religious smorgasbord, picking up a jewel here, a coin there. We are not treasure hunters that go from auction to auction or sale to sale always seeking another find.

A popular view of the spiritual life today puts us in the position of spiritual consumers picking bits of wisdom and insight from various sources to make our own unique menu. But this way of creating your own spiritual perspective misses what is most valuable—Jesus. He is, as Chrysostom and Augustine insisted, the Pearl and the Treasure. “In him are hiding all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

Do you know any “religious consumers?”

FAMILY TIME—

If Jesus is the most valuable thing we can have, what is second?
