The Upside Down World, Week 1, Day 6

by David Joynt on September 15, 2017

EXODUS 20:1-4

Only “selling” gets the treasure and makes the acquisition of the Pearl possible. Some desires must be given up to make room for a single focus. Selling is not a condition for finding what is most valuable—this “finding” happens by God’s grace. But “selling all” is a condition for having the treasure. God brooks no competitors on the thrones of our hearts. He is never truly God when he is second or third in our inner hierarchy. The first commandments remind us of this necessary priority.
