The Upside Down World, Week 10, Day 5

by David Joynt on November 16, 2017

DAY 19 THURSDAY | NOVEMBER 16, 2017 LUKE 18:13 - 14A

The truth is that we see others’ problems and sins far more easily than we do our own. The Pharisee cannot see his own pride, his contempt, his lack of love and concern. That is why we need others, why a community is crucial for each one of us. One key to a genuine Christian life and a genuine Christian church is accountability. Unless others can name our faults, gently and with compassion, we will tend to miss them and never be able to address or correct them.

The tax collector, as a sinner whose shortcomings were universally acknowledged, is actually blessed, since he can face and confess his errors, and be forgiven.
