The Upside Down World, Week 6, Day 2

by David Joynt on October 16, 2017

LUKE 10:26-28

Jesus undermines the lawyer’s self-righteousness in two ways, and the first way doesn’t work. He asks the lawyer what the Bible says he must do and receives an intelligent reply in the form of the double love command—to love God fully and to love neighbor as we do ourselves. But the lawyer misses the difficulty of fulfilling this obligation. Who loves God with their whole heart, allowing him to focus all their emotions and desires 24/7? Who is able to love God with their whole soul, determining every practice and priority and motivation by his goodness? Who can master all their thoughts according to his faithful guidance? Is there anyone whose every action reflects God’s glory? There is no one who can do this, save Jesus.

Which of the four parts of the Great Commandment is hardest for you?

Why is this?

FAMILY TIME—

Talk about what it means to love God partially versus loving him completely.
