VPC 2.0 Daily Devotional-46

by David Joynt on November 18, 2020

ACTS 2:45 | 45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.

ACTS 4:34 | 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold.

Another encouragement for the early believers was the capacity to meet needs as they emerged. Caring for people with urgent problems directly demonstrates God’s love and compassion,   continuing Jesus’ ministries of feeding, healing, and blessing.

These ministries of care show the power of community and the effectiveness of shared resources. The idea of pooling resources for solving emergent needs in and beyond your own community was almost unknown in the ancient world, apart from its antecedents in Judaism. Despite the stress of organizing life in the church for the first time ever, the early Christians did not ignore the broken and struggling.

Do you pray for our mission partners and ministries of compassion?

What needs in our community most move you?
