Real Devotional 26

by David Joynt on May 26, 2022

JAMES 1:23-24 | 23 For if any are hearers of the word and

not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; 24 for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like.

Each of us has a stream of consciousness. One of the scariest novels I’ve read was James Joyce, “Ulysses.” It was a revolutionary book, and very hard to read, because it explored the actual and chaotic way the main character thought. He had, like we all do, a stream of thoughts and feelings that was an almighty and confusing jumble!

We order our thoughts and souls by responding to God’s word. His Word shapes reality and forms truth. Unless we respond and enact His word when we understand it, it disappears in the face of the stream of impressions, feelings, ideas, and questions surging through us. Internal noise drains out and submerges the divine voice.

Does today’s meditation reflect how quickly images and ideas can flash across the “screen of our minds?”

Be quiet and still before God for 5 minutes today.
