Advent Week 1: The Way of Waiting, Day 4
We'll give an account some day to Jesus for our service, and he will either be thrilled or repelled. Do you believe this? How is your lamp shining in the darkness?

UNPREPARED
The foolish bridesmaids raise a sobering prospect for Jesus'
followers. The bridesmaids are already holding invitations to the
party, but the door is shut on them. They have a connection to the
bridegroom, and seemingly accepted the invitation, yet they are
left out. Some Christians have a lamp, an experience of Jesus, but
no oil. Their lives do not shine in the darkness. It is necessary to
accept your invitation and to prepare. When we find a treasure in
a field, we must sell all to acquire it. Invitations do not guarantee
participation. Knowledge of Jesus without obedience to Jesus betrays unbelief. Secular people who think Jesus' arrival to Judge is a fairy tale or far off improbability will be caught unprepared. Some religious
people think it is imminent and demands little preparation. They
will be shocked.
