All You Need is Love Daily Devotional -31

by David Joynt on May 11, 2021

1 CORINTHIANS13:7 | Love bears all things, believes all things.

Love believes all things. What does this mean? It does not mean loving followers of Jesus are gullible or credulous, accepting things without evidence. Nor does it mean we are feckless, intellectually careless about the ideas we accept. It does mean we cannot be relativists or out and out skeptics about the possibility of finding truth. Faith has a focus, an objective dimension, namely the historical person, Jesus of Nazareth. He is the way, the Truth, and the Life. He makes specific truth claims about Himself and about the good human life, and about the divine will.

Understanding truth is a task, and it can be difficult, requiring patience and perseverance, because you and I are creatures of limited vision, whose grasp of reality is partial and faulty. But this does not undermine confidence in the truth God has given us in Christ, much of which has a magnificent simplicity, proven across time and culture.

How do you connect love and belief?

How confident are you in essential Christian truth?
