Broken and the Blessed, Lent Day 36

by David Joynt on April 05, 2017

DAY 36

ISAIAH 53

This is evident in the way Jesus adopts the language and role of the Suffering Servant, found in Isaiah, to explain His coming death. This passage from Isaiah 53 originally referred to the Sufferings of Israel, but it becomes almost an advance description of the ordeal of Good Friday. In the N.T., Jesus embodies the people of Israel, coming out of Egypt, offering revelation on the mountain, fulfilling the law, and making real the hopes of the prophets. But in choosing to become a Suffering Servant, he deals with all that is broken in the story of Israel, all the commands foregone, all that was wrong in deeds and hearts.

Only God, through Christ, has the power to heal the past.

Is there something in your past that needs healing?

Ask God to remove feelings of guilt from your heart.

FAMILY TIME:

In the Exodus story, read Chapter 12:21-23.

Is there a parallel to the event of the cross?
