Broken and the Blessed Week 4, Day 2

by David Joynt on January 30, 2017

DAY 23

1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-31

Closeness to God shows up as a desire to know God and obey him, discovering his ways and fulfilling his will. Righteousness is not self-defining, nor can it ever be achieved alone. The world’s definitions of righteousness are always inadequate and self-serving. Righteousness is doing my best as I see it. Righteousness is doing slightly better average, or being superior to my underachieving neighbor. Righteousness is avoiding extreme evil.

But only God can define righteousness - for he alone is holy, good, and capable of knowing what is holy and good. Fortunately righteousness is not an abstract idea in our faith but rather a personal one. Righteousness is the life we see in Jesus, the wholeness, justice, and love he displayed toward God and others.

How intense is your desire to know and follow God?

Why does the world minimize or ignore “righteousness”?

FAMILY TIME—

How is Jesus different from the average person?
