Christmas at the Movies: Week 2, Day 1

by David Joynt on December 10, 2017

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

“The Last Reindeer Shall Be First “

There are some things it is hard to imagine saying to your
congregation. Among them are ''Not many of you are wise, or
powerful...looking around today, I can't help thinking God has
picked you because you are weak and insignificant!" Why would
Paul say such a thing to the Church in Corinth? Is he
deliberately putting them down? No. He is reassuring them that
God doesn't need to have Caesar and his governors, or the
President and his Cabinet, on his side to accomplish his purpose.
He does not need Greek philosophers or Rabbinic scholars or
university professors to make his truths clear. God often uses the
unlikely person, the unexpected person, as his agent and
emissary. Our perceived weaknesses do not disqualify us from
doing great things for God. His calling and power are more than
sufficient when we are willing.

Has God ever asked you to do something for which you felt ill-
equipped?

Think of several characters from the Bible who fit today's theme
and thank God for them.
