Connected Together for Tomorrow: Day 3

Do you have a relative, friend, or neighbor needing care or prayer? How good are you at extending care beyond the immediate circle?

by David Joynt on October 25, 2016

JOHN 10:14-16

Church membership brings certain definite blessings. As a member, you can serve as a deacon, leading our efforts to care, or taking responsibility for another area of ministry, as an elder. You can vote in the election of these officers, and you can help to choose ministers. Membership doesn’t always equal commitment—you can join and be nominal, but it does strengthen our body because it is a public commitment to God’s work at VPC and an encouragement to others.

But membership does not define the limits of our caring. VPC has a broader “family” which includes not only our visitors, but the relatives and friends and neighbors of everyone who is connected to our congregation. Former members are also part of our extended family. Jesus refuses to limit the extent of caring with a boundary line. In his ministry, he responds to need—not making his help conditional on familiarity, ethnicity, or previous connection.
