Divine Imperatives November 9 Devotional

by David Joynt on November 09, 2023

1 CORINTHIANS 2:9 | But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him”

Further shaping the way we respond to the brokenness in others is the realization that our knowledge of them is always incomplete. Michael Green notes “we can never know the whole story” about those we seek to help onto a better pathway. We don’t know the totality of their past experiences and traumas, their internal unseen emotional hurdles and temptations, and the burdens they carry in other areas of their lives. We also don’t see what God is doing in them now or in the future. Understanding our limitations of vision should make us kinder and gentler and less draconian in our approach.

How often do you pray for divine wisdom and discernment?

Gracious God,

We see the surface, you see the depth. Guide us in our relationships, revealing the things we need to know to live well and truly.

Amen.
