Divine Imperatives October 21 Devotional

PSALM 51:10, 12, 15 | ¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.

¹² Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.

¹⁵ O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

Why is forgiveness so key within God’s spiritual economy? Part of the reason is that the alternative is so awful. What if we had no access to forgiveness? We’d have to try and ignore the world’s evils and our own failings — an impossible task. Or we’d face all the struggle and be overwhelmed.

Our daily experiences of regret would tie us forever to previous mistakes. Guilt would accumulate every single day. The past would stand out against us in perpetual accusation, compromising the present, draining our life and energy, and clouding the future. The abundant life is not guilt ridden and does not fear Judgement.

Thank God that forgiveness is real! Are you experiencing it right now?

Gracious God,

Thank you for making the past into a launching pad and not a prison. We rejoice today that our mistakes are forgiven and forgotten and that we are free to pursue your kingdom cause.
