Luke 9:1-2 | 1 Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure
diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
The righteous paths God leads us on are full of excitement. They lead us off the sidelines and into the game. They include us in the deep and grievous troubles that plague our world and break God’s heart. They call us into our neighbors difficulties and needs. We stop huddling in splendid isolation, we stop putting safety first, we set aside fear of failure and we learn to trust God’s promises. Death to self opens the way to concern for others, to connection and
involvement. Life with Jesus means responding to cries for help, moving toward the broken and bereft, exercising the powers of love and healing.
