Dwell in the House of the Lord Volume 2, Day 45

by David Joynt on July 21, 2020

PSALM 23:6a| 6a Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.

Recognizing our need for mercy is vital. It dictates our fundamental stance toward God and others. I am helpless and hopeless without God’s mercy. No other balm can heal my wounds, no other antidote can cure my disease, no other verdict can overturn my sentence. The Kyrie is a part of so many sacred liturgies: “Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy.” Our need for mercy is our basic reality. Recognizing this is also the way to receive it and then to share it. In a judging and judgmental world, you and I become vessels of mercy.

Use the Kyrie as a prayer throughout this day.

Name one area of your life in which you need God’s mercy.
