Easter Hearts, Week 3, Day 6
by David Joynt on April 27, 2018
No one understood Jesus’ full identity at the start of his life or ministry. Even Mary and Joseph, who had angelic visits and were given divine messages did not have the full picture. Full faith in Christ often dawns gradually. There is a progression. His disciples and family saw him as the Messiah, God’s Chosen One, the fulfillment of Israel’s hopes, and the prophets’ dreams. Slowly they came to know that in him the Kingdom of God was present as they witnessed him raise the dead, heal the sick, and roll back the power of evil. They heard his claims to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life, the True Bread, the Light of the World, the True Vine. But it is only after the Resurrection that Jesus’ full divinity is understood. It is only when death is conquered that they begin to see what Thomas is the first to say, “My Lord and My God.”
How has your understanding of Jesus deepened through time?
Why is Thomas’ confession important?
