Leading With a Generous Heart: Day 6

LUKE 10:25-37

There are two types of generosity—planned and spontaneous.

Spontaneous generosity arises when unexpected opportunities present themselves. A neighbor has a need, a relative becomes ill, a church member has a setback, a stranger with a crisis comes across your path. You are walking to work in Jerusalem, and you come upon a mugging victim.

Planned generosity covers how we consciously decide to spend our resources. It requires evaluating the causes and groups we invest in, including the church. Planned generosity is about careful discernment and prayer, learning to treat our resources as a gift from God to be used in ways that honor his values and build his Kingdom.

Planned generosity thinks in terms of investment and legacy and engages our mind and our reason. Spontaneous generosity flows from the immediate call of our hearts. Both are key for God and for us!
