Leading With a Humble Heart: Day 4

MARK 10:43

The most striking form of humility in Jesus’ life comes from His teaching and His specific behaviors. In a Greco-Roman culture, where status determined opportunity and rank, He redefined greatness in terms of service and related Kingdom qualification to childlikeness. Children and servants were at the bottom of the social scale, and His prediction that the “last shall be first” implies that modesty and humility are primary virtues. Prediction may be the wrong word here—description might be better, because Jesus is describing the actual meaning of greatness within His real Kingdom.

This upside down Kingdom scale still shocks us. Does it make sense to you? How can it be justified?
