Marked Devotional 19

by David Joynt on March 24, 2022

DEUTERONOMY 9:10 | 10 And the Lord gave me the two stone tablets written with the finger of God; on them were all the words that the Lord had spoken to you at the mountain out of the fire on the day of the assembly.

Fasting is a way to make room for other things. Initially, we tend to be more aware of our desire for food as we fast. It is humbling to be reminded of our fragile creaturehood, and our continual need. But fasting accompanied by prayer is a way of recognizing the reality of our souls, and prioritizing our relationship with God. Moses’ fasting made room for the startling gift, to him and to every generation, of the most compact and complete summary of his will ever developed. Each of the 10 commandments reveals profound things about God and about us. Each is a challenge and an inspiration. Each offers a constituent element in a worldview that connects us with reality.

How do you make room for God’s voice in your life?

Meditate on one of the 10 commandments. What does it say to you about the world, about God, and about yourself?
