Marked Devotional 31

LUKE 19:44b | 44b  ...because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.

What specifically moved Jesus to tears as He looked at the city of Jerusalem? The painful irony that the majority of His people missed their own Messiah! They prayed and waited for centuries, enduring exile and subjugation, holding on to the promises that God would send His anointed one to right their wrongs, establish a kingdom, and initiate an era of peace. They listened to the words of the prophets and prayed for the coming of the King, passing hope from generation to generation, despite their struggles.

At last, their hopes and dreams came true! Their prayers were answered! The Messiah arrived, full of grace and truth, preaching wisdom and performing deeds of healing and mercy! The majority did not recognize Him. The greatest moment in the history of the chosen people was ignored by some and rejected by others.

Do you know the pain of missing a moment, when prayers were answered, or opportunity knocked?
