JOHN 10:28-30 | I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. What my Father has given me is greater than all else, and no one can snatch it out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one. PSALM 51:11 | Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.
Do you have spiritual fears? David’s greatest fear is shunned by many others—separation from God. To be “cast out,” away from God’s presence, and to be left alone without his spirit to encourage and reassure, is a terrible prospect. Just as a small child separated from her parents is reduced to desperation and panic, this thought is terrifying.
Be encouraged friends. Jesus tells us that no one can snatch us from his hand. The gift of the Holy Spirit at baptism is not conditional. It does not depend on our achieving a certain level of holiness or effectiveness. God did not reject the repentant David, despite the gravity of his sins. Jesus overcomes sins’ power on the cross and commitment to him creates an unbreakable bond.
