Questions Week 17, Day 3

by David Joynt on August 22, 2017

GENESIS 41:25-36

The genius of capitalism is the creation of a surplus. By multiplying resources, increasing efficiency, advancing technology, and turning risk and endeavor into productivity, individuals and companies generate growth. In the Joseph story, agricultural growth is preserved to invest in the health of Egypt during lean years, saving lives and preventing catastrophe. But in essence, it is growth that moves people beyond “survival mode,” where all time and energy is consumed by the demands of existence. Growth allows resources and time to be spent creating culture, making art, and caring for those unable to care for themselves. The best system for generating  growth in the world’s history has been democratic capitalism, with free markets that facilitate the exchange of ideas, resources, and products.
