LUKE 19:35-40 | 35 Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!” 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”
Submission to the will of another can be craven or heroic. It can reflect fear of not conforming or a desire to follow and obey. The path God asked Jesus to walk to Jerusalem and the cross required a daily decision to surrender His will to His Father’s purpose. One instance was the entrance into the city. By choosing the donkey, a peace symbol, He once again refused to be the Messiah most Israelites wanted, that is, a military liberator. This would lead to
disappointment, and be expressed in the crowd’s rejection later in the week, when they shouted for Barnabas, rather than Jesus, to be released by Pilate.
The Lord’s prayer is a daily prayer. It includes a daily submission: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done.”
How good are you at submission to God’s will?
