LUKE 23:41 | 41 And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
The dying criminal proclaims the truth of Jesus’ innocence and the reality of his own guilt. This, once more is a startling observation. Does he conclude Jesus’ innocence because he had followed His career, heard of His reputation, or did he observe something special about Him under the severe suffering of the cross? I don’t know the answer, but there is deep irony in it being a criminal who pronounces Jesus innocent and exposes the injustice of His death, when judges, officials, and religious experts have done the reverse.
Jesus willingly identified Himself with the condemned and also with all those subject to unjust punishment by undergoing this death.
Pray for those who exist in prisons because they have been unjustly condemned.
