Church Challenge: Wider Witness
All around us are Presbyterian congregations who have much to give and share with the world, but they are dying. They cannot meet the challenge of a Wider Witness. Used to a world where church excellence, by itself, attracted people who were searching for communities of faith, they have not adapted to the culture where secular values reign.
Yet Jesus’ expectation for us is the same as it was for the first disciples: “You shall be my witnesses, in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and everywhere else!” They were faithful to that assignment, among their family and friends and their co-workers and neighbors. Because of their faithfulness, we are here today, two millennia later and a continent away. If they could impact a hostile empire, can we not impact a skeptical culture?
