Soul Songs February 11 Devotional

PSALM 145:1-4 | 1 I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. 3 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation shall extol your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.
The Psalmist makes a promise to always bless God’s name, every single day. Now, there are times when this is easy and natural, moments when life is full and rich. Plans come to fruition, health is robust, life is full of blessings and opportunities. The marvelous hymn, It Is Well With My Soul acknowledges this in its very first line: “when peace like a river attendeth my way…” The author Horatio Spafford had days brimming with success and joy. He and his wife, Anna, had four beautiful daughters. He was a lawyer in Chicago that had a flourishing practice, and that led to significant real estate investments. He was wealthy, happy, and fulfilled.
Have you known periods where praise was easy?
Gracious God,
Thank You for life moments when the sun shines and fortune smiles. Let me never take blessings for granted but celebrate every good and perfect gift I am given.
Amen.
