Soul Songs February 14 Devotional

by David Joynt on February 14, 2024

JOHN 14:27 | 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

“Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” There is a peace that passes understanding and is independent of circumstances. It is not stoic acceptance of the bad with the good. It is not bitter acquiescence to misfortune. It is a deep assurance that in life and death we belong to God and nothing can separate us from His loving embrace.

Jesus promises this peace to His disciples in John 14. All worldly peace is temporary, a respite from conflict, or a pause in work. Divine peace is deeper, longer, and richer and will eventually extend everywhere. Our Lord wants us to taste it now through His Spirit.

Have you ever been stoic?

Gracious God,

We hold onto the promise of Your peace and the gift of Your presence. Strengthen our faith in trial and our trust in difficulty.

Amen.
