Soul Songs January 26 Devotional

by David Joynt on January 26, 2024

1 THESSALONIANS 4:16 | 16 For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

“When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation”

This marvelous hymn then moves forward to the climax of history, the return of Jesus Christ. This return gives the lie to the idea that faith should properly be considered a private matter. The claims of faith are inherently public! They concern public and historical facts, like the death and Resurrection and identity of Jesus. And they portend universal events, like the eventual return of Christ as Cosmic King, Final Judge of all human lives and affairs. In fact his return will be the most public event ever!

Can you imagine the praise of Christ not only going viral, but universal?

Gracious God,

We are grateful for the freedom and independence you grant us. Help us use it well in anticipation of the Day when every knee shall bow and tongue confess your Lordship.

Amen.
