Stress Test Devotional May 10

PHILIPPIANS 1:3-5 | 3 I thank my God for every remembrance of you, 4 always in every one of my prayers for all of you, praying with joy 5 for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.

When it comes to our souls we have a lifetime to grow and an eternity to live and enjoy that growth. What also reduces the stress of the call to grow in Christ is that we have a community to help us grow.

 

Some spiritual growth is done alone, praying and seeking and reading and wrestling. But a lot of our growth comes from working and serving together. It is sparked by models and by mentors. It is inspired by teachers and leaders. It occurs as we use our gifts within the work of the church.

 

Who is aiding your growth?

 

Pray for someone who has helped you develop.

 

 

Gracious God,

Thank You for Christian community. Help me find inspiration and opportunity to grow in my church and beyond it.

Amen.

David Joynt

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
