Stress Test Devotional May 3

by David Joynt on May 03, 2024

MATTHEW 6:19, 24, 33 | 19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal.

24 No one can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

How can we tell whether we are guilty of major or minor idolatries? How do we know when false goals and gods have taken a hold in our lives?

The best way is to examine ourselves. What do we think about the most? What do we hope for the hardest? What do we invest time, energy, and money in? What does our prayer list look like?

Honest answers will tell us whether we are secretly worshipping things that are temporary or false.

Answer the four questions in the middle paragraph.

Gracious God,

Help me to focus my prayers, thoughts, efforts, and hopes in holy and productive ways.

Amen.
