 BARNABAS AND PAUL

ACTS 9:26-27

Barnabas not only validated the first non-Jewish community of
believers, he did the same thing for the man destined to be the
first and most important missionary to the Gentile world, Saul
of Tarsus. Saul had been persecuting the Church before
meeting the risen Lord on the Damascus Road. Dramatically
convinced that Jesus was Lord, he switched sides and was
renamed Paul. Naturally the members of the community he
had been persecuting doubted the reality of his conversion and
feared he was a spy intent on destroying them. Barnabas
investigated, connected with Paul, and deemed his faith
genuine. Without this support, Paul might never have found
acceptance and a calling that led him to start many churches
and write a good portion of our New Testament.
