The Originals, Week 4, Day 2

by David Joynt on January 29, 2018

LUKE 15:1-7

How do we follow Jesus in the befriending of sinners like
Matthew? One key element is to recognize that our revulsion
toward them says as much or more about the state of our own
souls as it does about their spiritual situation. Jesus has a
disturbing habit of excoriating pride and superiority and
insisting that "There is more joy in heaven over one sinner
who repents than (this next part of the sentence is ironic)
99  people who need no repentance."

Fallen human nature has a consistent tendency to elevate itself
by looking down at others as unworthy and nefarious.
Redeemed human nature seeks to save those who are lost in
darkness and confusion.

Have you learned to recognize and check your own pride?

Do you find yourself doing a lot of unnecessary comparing?
