The Pursuit of Happiness Daily Devotional -14

by David Joynt on January 16, 2021

PHILIPPIANS 2:10-11 | 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Honoring Jesus is right and fitting, because of who He is and what He has done. But such honor is controversial, since it subordinates every other kind of authority and personality, staking a claim to ultimacy. Every knee should bow and every tongue confess, but they do not do so in our world. Jesus’ name is still cursed and His authority resisted.

God’s intention, however, will not in the end be frustrated. As we try to honor and confess His name, we will encounter both hostility and indifference, even when we are gracious and gentle in our witness and creative in our worship. But we are assured that eventually divine intention will become fact, and the “should” will become a straight declarative verb. Knees will bend and voices acknowledge Him.

Are you defensive with skeptics or patient?

Do you have faith God’s truth will triumph and love will prevail?
