The Upside Down World, Week 6, Day 3

LUKE 10:26-28 CONTINUED
Is there anyone who can love their neighbor to the same extent they love themselves, always and in every case? That would require knowing our neighbor as well as we know ourselves—a tall order in itself. It would mean being able to perceive every situation from another’s point of view with complete clarity and then express a continuous passionate care for another’s well being in all circumstances. Marriage involves a vow to pursue this type of love and behavior and think about how difficult it is! Imagine treating all your neighbors as if they were spouses. Impossible. Jesus’ casual “do this and you’ll live” hides the immensity of this task and the inverse, “don’t do this and you will die.”
Anyone who has taken wedding vows knows how hard this command is! Do you agree?
What does Paul say, in Romans, about self-sufficiency in the spiritual life?
FAMILY TIME—
What can go wrong when we try to love our neighbors?
Pray for wisdom in doing so.
