The Week That Changed The World Devotional February 25

PSALM 27:4 | 4 One thing I asked of the Lord; this I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

The Temple was the highest and holiest institution within first century Judaism. It was the center of the life of Jerusalem and the place of pilgrimage for the national festivals. The daily sacrifices were the means by which Israelites came to terms with their brokenness and maintained fellowship with God. It was the symbol of the nation’s faith, the home of the tabernacle, and its existence was understood as a guarantee of the covenant. It was the place of God’s presence, the locus where earth and Heaven connected.

For centuries it had been run by the chief priests and legions of subordinates.

Have you ever had an emotional relationship with a sanctuary?

Gracious God,

Thank You for Jerusalem and its Temple, symbols of Your faithfulness to Israel, and to Your promises. Thank You for providing places that are holy and set apart. May my life be a temple for Your Spirit too.

Amen.
