Under Construction, Week 3, Day 17
by David Joynt on August 27, 2019
MATTHEW 13:51-52 | "Have you understood all this?" They answered, "Yes." And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old."
We have preserved much in our beautiful Sanctuary, keeping the natural stone and soaring walls. Some things like the marble communion table and baptismal font will be repurposed. The goal is not change for change sake or pure deconstruction, but a renovation that honors the integrity of our space and fill it with fresh meaning. Great traditions should not be carelessly cast aside in a frenzy for new ways, but they must be renewed in order to flourish. Careful deconstruction leads to creative construction that makes the old fresh and powerful.
Pray for our builders and building committee.
Pray that our teaching pastors can also preserve and enliven our theological and biblical traditions, bringing something “old and new” together in a fresh way.
