Under Construction, Week 6, Day 41

NEHEMIAH 4:7-9 | But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem was going forward and the gaps were beginning to be closed, they were very angry, and all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it.  So we prayed to our God, and set a guard as a protection against them day and night.

EPHESIANS 6:10-12 | Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power.  Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

When criticism failed then the opposition resorted to actual interference as they attacked the builders.  This is a little picture of what happens to us as we build the church and construct the kingdom.  The evil one first works by disparagement and discouragement.  When we persist there are often direct attacks—obstacles that must be overcome before we experience new levels of blessing and renewal.

On the way to success in your life, have you faced psychological and practical opposition?

Do you have a sense you are in a spiritual battle?
