VPC 2.0 Daily Devotional-25

by David Joynt on October 28, 2020

I CHRONICLES 29: 6, 9 | Then the leaders of ancestral houses made their freewill offerings, as did also the leaders of the tribes, the commanders of the thousands and of the hundreds, and the officers over the king’s work.

Then the people rejoiced because these had given willingly, for with single mind they had offered freely to the Lord; King David also rejoiced greatly.

Generosity is a learned discipline before it is a joy. Our natural tendency is to accumulate and not dispense, to acquire and not give. Children at our Easter egg hunt race to get their candy!

But notice how David’s radical generosity impacts fellow leaders and ordinary Israelites. Encouraged and inspired they contribute to the endeavor.

In so doing they discover a new joy and a new unity. What no one could do alone they can all do together, on behalf of themselves and people yet unborn. Their wise gifts of money, goods, and services are all needed, all important.

Are you teaching or inspiring anyone in generosity?

Do you have joy in your giving?
