World Changing Words Devotional-Day 39

by David Joynt on September 09, 2020

JOEL 2:28a | 28a Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh;

 The truly revolutionary character of the vision given to Joel is found in Chapter 2, verses 28-29. Chapter 3 pictures Judah restored, the nations judged. The prophet has an ethnocentric hope for national success at the expense of other societies. This hope is understandable, given Judah’s suffering at the hands of foreign powers, and her loss of independence.

 But verses 28-29 offer a wider image of the salvation God will bring about. Here we have a universal outpouring of God’s own spirit on “all flesh.” Yahweh’s concern and purposes go beyond “his people” to include all people.

 What place does love of country have in your life?

 How is it expressed?
