World Changing Words Devotional-Day 48

by David Joynt on September 18, 2020

MICAH 6:3-4 | 3 “O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me! For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of slavery; and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

Micah has another covenant to appeal to. He evokes the covenant that arose after the deliverance from Egypt, made at Sinai. The mosaic covenant was a partnership, established by the gracious decision of Yahweh to choose and free the Israelite tribes. But it was a covenant with both blessings and curses, an exclusive relationship which focused on obedience and loyalty.

Faithlessness and perfidy put the covenant into question and led to punishment and disaster. No subsequent royal theology could save the nation from apostasy.

Can you hear God’s agony in these verses?
