SHARE YOUR FAITH STORY: Youth New Membership Class

RECOMMENDED FOCUS: High School Students

Encourage and support your child in the next step in their walk with Jesus Christ.
Deuteronomy 6:4-6 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.

Class Enrichment Activities: As part of the Youth New Member Class, students will be asked to create a timeline of their faith story, to talk to you (their parent) about a favorite bible verse, to visit another faith community, to learn about their spiritual gifts, and to listen to their parents' faith story, in addition, to writing their own statement of faith.

How to support: If you haven’t before, take some time to reflect on the same questions/activities as your student, so that you can discuss it with your teen. Think about people, scripture and events during the various seasons of your life and how they impacted your faith journey. Be sure to share doubts and questions you may have had.  This is a great opportunity to let them know God is big enough for those.

1 Peter 3:15 “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have“

Make time: Make time to talk about this with your teen, when asked. If they don’t ask, ask them...would you like to hear my faith story?

MAKE A PLAN TO BE INTENTIONAL THIS NEXT YEAR WITH YOUR CHILD:

This year I will...

  • Pray daily for and with my child.
  • Consistently spend time in God’s Word.
  • Bless my child daily.
  • Pepper in faith talks.
  • Create a habit of worship with my child.
  • Serve together as a family.
  • Schedule regular times to connect with my child to support and encourage them in this class.
  • ___________________________________________

Remember just two degrees of difference can change your faith journey (and that of your child's) dramatically, “by making small changes in your life, not only can you accomplish...
transformation, but you can also sustain it as well.”
