Divine Imperatives November 10 Devotional

by David Joynt on November 10, 2023

MATTHEW 7:4-5 | 4 Or how can you say to your neighbor, “Let me take the speck out of your eye”, while the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye.

Self-awareness is a special gift God wants to give to all of us. Through it we become healthy and helpful friends that bless others by encouragement and by careful correction. Notice that once we have a handle on our own issues we are called to help others! Speck removal itself is not eliminated, just conditioned by love and self-awareness. All of us need correction and greater self-perception to progress as disciples, just as we need forgiveness and the capacity to be forgiving.

When has someone helped you remove a speck? When have you helped someone else?

Gracious God,

The tongue is powerful and hard to control. Teach me wise and careful speech that can encourage and greatly correct.

Amen.
