Everyday Saints Devotional 36

MATTHEW 24:35 | 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

What a breathtaking claim! My words will remain when the whole cosmos passes away.

We live in a time that is thoroughly historicist in outlook and presumption. Most people believe that truth is a product of time and circumstance, a cultural artifact. Our age sees difference and variety and heterogeneity, not similarity and universality. Not only are claims to enduring value viewed with suspicion, but also are viewed as an authoritarian attempt by one group to impose its relative and self-serving truth on others.

Today rising generations are quick to see the norms of previous eras as outdated, irrelevant, or oppressive. Yet Jesus claims his teachings are not just perpetually relevant—they are eternally so!

Do you share this counter-cultural belief?
