Lead Like Moses Devotional 24

by David Joynt on July 05, 2022

EXODUS 4:7-9 | Then God said, “Put your hand back into your cloak”—so he put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored like the rest of his body— “If they will not believe you or heed the first sign, they may believe the second sign. If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to you, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.”

EXODUS 5:22-23 | 22 Then Moses turned to the Lord and said, “O my Lord, why have you mistreated this people? Why did you ever send me? 23 Since I first came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has mistreated this people, and you have done
nothing at all to deliver your people.”

Leaders need persistence. How wonderful if causes could be won in a single decisive moment. How terrific if enterprises could succeed in a brief period through a single act of courage.

Moses and Aaron bravely confronted the Pharaoh and presented the divine demand for freedom. The Pharaoh responded with harsher work conditions and an absolute refusal to consider the remission of the slaves or even a temporary vacation to travel and worship. He doubled down on coercion and control.

Moses was not ready for this—he had hoped for a quicker resolution—so he panicked and complained. He needed to understand great things take time and persistence! There would be many meetings with Pharaoh, many plagues and wonders, before the great Egyptian ruler would consider responding to the request.

How persistent and patient are you?
