Pray Without Ceasing, Week 1, Day 4

by David Joynt on June 05, 2019

PSALM 3:2 | Many are saying to me, “There is no help for you in God.”

David has been “the Lord’s Annointed” since he was a boy. (You can read about Samuel’s marking him as God’s king in 1 Samuel 16) Battlefield prowess enhanced his claim and led to universal acclaim. He was lionized in poetry and song. The two sources of his authority were public support and divine approval.
This one sentence threatens both. Many are claiming that God has withdrawn his support, as he did with Saul, and that David has been rejected. This must have shaken the King to his core because at his center, for generations, he had been the Chosen One, the God selected, the God blessed, the God led leader.

Have you ever lost support?

Has criticism ever shaken your sense of self?
