Questions Week 17, Day 1
by David Joynt on August 20, 2017
The question of Christianity and capitalism draws some extreme responses. Some insist that Jesus’ radical simplicity is incompatible with the excesses of capitalism. Doesn’t capitalism cultivate discontent with our material status so that it can inflame our desire for the next experience and latest gadget? Is unbridled competition not a form of self-interest? Others see capitalism as an outgrowth of Christianity and a boon to the world. A third group just separates faith and business. This week, we’ll take a look at the ways genuine Christian belief should shape our economic outlook and behavior.
